THURSDAY 8 IN JUNE WE CELEBRATE THE WORLD DAY OF THE OCEANS AND, IN PARTICULAR, THE POSIDONIA, THE BLUE LUNG OF THE OCEAN.

with this motive, we met Catherine Piante, WWF-France Maritime Spatial Planning Program Manager, to talk about the importance of preserving Posidonia and the collaboration with Fountaine Pajot in the fight to save it.

I knew it? Posidonia performs a number of important ecological functions. Posidonia meadows constitute an essential habitat for many marine species. They are also vital for water quality in coastal areas.. Preserving and protecting these ecosystems is essential to maintain the ecological balance of the Mediterranean Sea. Thus, Fountaine Pajot collaborates with WWF to protect the posidonia meadows.

PROTECT THE OCEANS TO PROTECT LIFE!!

The oceans are at the base of the phenomena that make our planet habitable: oxygen supply, water cycle, climate regulation, food resources, etc. However, are under increasing pressure from human activities and climate change (increase in surface water temperature, acidification, etc.). However, are under increasing pressure from human activities and climate change (increase in surface water temperature, acidification, etc.). This has a direct impact on marine ecosystems.

  • The 72% of the earth's surface is covered by oceans and seas.
  • In the oceans, some 250.000 species, figure that could amount to millions, as the depths remain largely unexplored.
  • The 30% of CO2 produced by humans is absorbed by the oceans, mitigating the impact of global warming.
  • A carbon sink: until 1.500 tons of carbon per hectare, from 3 a 5 times more than tropical forests, over millions of hectares and hundreds of years.
  • A vulnerable ecosystem: loss of between 10% and the 30% of its surface in 50 years throughout the Mediterranean basin.

A PARTNERSHIP FOR ACTION

Fountaine-Pajot has decided to support the conservation project of WWF France through a partnership. The objective is to raise awareness and mobilize the nautical industry to change the practices of the sector. The project intends: provide operational support to the local authorities of the Mediterranean coast for the deployment of organized mooring areas in places that require the protection of the posidonia meadow; launch an awareness campaign in France aimed at boaters; support virtuous financing projects to preserve the posidonia meadow.

AN INSPIRING ROADMAP

Preserving these authentic underwater "blue forests" requires the collaboration of all: our group, our employees, our network of partners and all our sailors. partners and all recreational boaters. Only strong dynamics can stop the degradation of this marine ecosystem. Thus, Fountaine Pajot deploys an action plan on four fronts: inform and raise awareness, support high-impact projects in collaboration with WWF, develop sustainable nautical solutions and, finally, get involved in major international initiatives to preserve the oceans. Every day, our roadmap is enriched by the actions of all those involved in shaping the future of sustainable sailing.
